Insights from Galatians 4:1-7
Adopting my son opened my eyes to the truths in Galatians 4:1-7. Here, Paul compares our spiritual journey to adoption, revealing the depth of our relationship with God.
From Heirs to Sons
Paul talks about heirs being no different from slaves before they come of age. This echoes our pre-Christ state, bound by the world’s principles, awaiting our true inheritance. As a leader and a parent, I see how we, too, were like children under guardianship before knowing Christ. We had potential, yet we were not free.
The Turning Point of Adoption
Verses 4-5 mark a dramatic shift: God sent His Son to redeem us, allowing us to receive adoption into God’s family. Welcoming my son into our family mirrors this divine adoption. We become God’s chosen, brought near through Jesus’ sacrifice.
A Closer Relationship with God
Our adoption transforms our relationship with God. We can now call Him “Abba, Father” with genuine affection. This intimacy has reshaped my leadership and my interactions. Leading is now about engaging with the confidence and care that come from knowing our true value.
Living Out Our Sonship
How do we live as God’s adopted children?
- Own Your New Identity: Like my son did, accept your place as God’s child.
- Lead from Acceptance: Your place in God’s family is a gift, not a reward. Lead from this place of acceptance.
- Deepen Your Connection with God: Grow closer to God, knowing Him as Abba.
- Show the Father’s Love: Reflect God’s care and love in how you lead and care for others.
- Promote Inclusion: Welcome others into God’s family, just as we welcomed our son into ours.
Conclusion
Galatians 4:1-7 goes beyond theology, touching real-life experiences like adoption. Adopting my son showed me the transformative journey into God’s family. Through Christ, we move from distant heirs to beloved children, able to approach God as our “Abba.” This revelation inspires the way I lead, parent, and share the love I’ve received, mirroring our Father’s heart for bringing us closer through adoption.
