My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” – John 15:12-13
Title: A Salute to Service: Reflections on Veterans Day from an Army Chaplain
As an Army Chaplain, I have had the privilege of serving alongside some of our nation’s bravest men and women. I have witnessed firsthand the courage, resilience, and selflessness that define our military personnel. As we approach Veterans Day, I reflect on the profound sacrifices made by these extraordinary individuals and the indelible impact they have had on our nation and the world. Veterans Day is a time to honor those who have donned our nation’s uniform, those who have stood on the front lines of freedom, and those who have given their all in service to this great nation. It is a day to remember and appreciate the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families. It is a day to say, “Thank you.” As a Chaplain, I have been honored to provide spiritual support to our soldiers. I have been there in times of joy and celebration but also in times of sorrow and loss. I have seen our soldiers’ strength, unwavering commitment to their duty, and deep love for their country. I have also seen the cost of their service – the physical wounds, the emotional scars, and the personal sacrifices. I have been there when a soldier has received a letter from home, bringing a smile to their face during a challenging deployment. I have been there when a soldier has struggled with the weight of their experiences, seeking solace and understanding. I have been there when a soldier has knelt in prayer, seeking strength and guidance from a higher power. Through it all, I have been continually inspired by the resilience and dedication of our veterans. Their service extends beyond their time in uniform.
Many continue to serve their communities and country in various ways, carrying the values and lessons learned during their military service. On this Veterans Day, I encourage everyone to reflect on the sacrifices made by our veterans. Reach out to the veterans in your life and express your gratitude. Attend a local Veterans Day event or visit a veteran’s memorial. Consider volunteering or donating to organizations that support our veterans. As we honor our veterans, let us also remember the role of faith in their lives. Faith has been a source of strength and comfort for many veterans during their service and beyond. As a Chaplain, I have seen the power of faith in the lives of our soldiers, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as a spiritual guide and support. On this Veterans Day, let us unite as a nation to honor our veterans. Let us express our gratitude for their service, remember their sacrifices, and offer our support. Let us also remember the role of faith in their lives and the strength and comfort it provides. To all our veterans, thank you for your service. You have our most profound respect and gratitude. May God bless and keep you, and may He continue to bless our great nation.
